Mode in mathematical statistics is the point at which the density of the distribution of a continuous random variable, or the unit probability of a discrete random variable, reaches a maximum. In other words, the mode assumes the numerical value of the value of the feature that is observed with the highest frequency (at most units of the studied population).

Fashion is a non-algebraic average and can still be found as medium density or medium frequency.

Depending on the fashion, the distributions are single-modal (unimodal) or multimodal. Unimodal is the known normal distribution, which has the shape of a bell. Distributions with two distinct modes, whether equal or not, are called bimodal.

Fashion, along with mathematical expectation and the median, characterizes the shape and location of the distribution.
